Frequently Asked Questions
Requirements - Vaccines & Spay/Neuter
Do you accept vaccines that were administered at home?
We accept vaccination records and titer tests from certified veterinarians.
Do you have to be a member to use boarding or training?
Membership is not necessary but certain membership options include significant savings on Barx Parx services.
Can multiple dogs come to the behavior assessment together?
Yes! Multiple dogs can come to a behavior assessment at the same time. You can also bring multiple dogs to the two hour daycare trial.
If you will be bringing them to the park together, we highly recommend it!How soon should I schedule a behavior assessment?
We recommend that you get in for a behavior assessment as soon as possible even if you aren’t planning on using Barx Parx for a few months. We want to make sure that you have plenty of time to find another option if our cage and kennel free environment isn’t a good fit.
What if my senior dog can no longer receive certain vaccines?
No problem! This is actually quite common. As long as we are able to obtain a letter from your vet describing why certain vaccines can no longer be administered, that’s all we need for any senior dogs.
Can I come without a dog?
While Barx Parx is primarily designed for owners to socialize with their dog, yes, you can come without a pup! Tours are offered at no charge anytime during normal business hours.
Does Barx Parx have breed restrictions?
We love ALL breeds at Barx Parx! Every dog will need to pass a behavior assessment, but no dog will ever be discriminated against because of its breed.
What if my dog doesn’t pass the behavior assessment?
No problem, you can always try again at a later date! We understand that everyone has a bad day every now and then – pups included. The purpose of the behavior assessments are to evaluate a dog’s innate character and help ensure the safety of all of our 2-legged and 4-legged friends. If your dog is unable to pass after the second try, our staff will provide consultation on training techniques as well as class options to help guide your canine best friend in the right direction.
Do you perform behavior assessments?
Yes. Every dog, regardless of age, breed or size, must pass a behavior assessment. It’s just a little meet and greet that we do to make sure that your pup is happy being at Barx Parx. The purpose of the behavior assessments are to evaluate a dog’s response to different situations and environmental changes and help ensure the safety of all of our 2-legged and 4-legged friends. Behavior assessments are performed by trained staff members and are by appointment only.
Does my dog need to be spayed or neutered?
Yes, dogs over six months of age are required to be fixed in order to use our facility. Unfortunately, no exceptions are made since Barx Parx is a 100% group play environment with no kennels or cages for separation.
What is the best way to send vaccination records?
After registering with the Barx Parx mobile app, you can upload a photo of your pup’s vaccination records directly in the app. You or your veterinarian may also email them to shots@barxparx.com.

Facility & Safety
What type of dog training does Barx Parx use?
At Barx Parx, all of our training is rooted in positive reinforcement methods. This means we focus on rewarding the behaviors we want to see, rather than punishing mistakes. By using praise, treats, toys, and encouragement, we create a fun and stress-free learning environment that helps pups build confidence and strengthen the bond with their people. Positive reinforcement training is not only highly effective, it’s also safe, science-based, and designed to bring out the very best in your dog.
Do you provide dog food for boarding?
For your pup’s safety and comfort, we do not provide standard dog food for boarding. We recommend bringing your dog’s meals pre-portioned or individually bagged for each day of their stay. If your pup becomes anxious or needs a gentler option, we can provide a chicken & rice meal for a small additional charge.
Does your facility have a fire suppression system?
Absolutely! Not only does our facility have fire sprinklers but we also have someone on site 24/7 with an evacuation plan for the pups in case of emergency. Your four legged family members are in good hands with Barx Parx!
How old does my dog need to be?
Dogs under 4 months of age are not permitted, dogs over 6 months of age must be spayed or neutered. Dogs under 4 months of age are only permitted for designated events such as puppy socialization and other puppy-specific training classes and events.
Can my dog get sick or catch a disease?
Your dog can be exposed to contagious illnesses or diseases regardless of where they are. When following proper vaccination and sanitation protocols, the risk of contracting an illness or disease is minimal. We pride ourselves on having an extremely clean facility and maintain very strict vaccination, disinfection and sanitation standards to do everything we can to prevent illness and disease transmission at Barx Parx. Having the Bordetella vaccination does not guarantee your dog won’t get kennel cough, but it greatly helps increase their immunity to it. The nightly disinfectant that we researched and chose specifically for our facility is a bit of a splurge, but it kills canine influenza, canine parvovirus, plus over 50 other viruses and pathogens!
Why is Barx Parx age restricted?
At Barx Parx, our facility is age-restricted in order to provide the safest and most enjoyable experience possible.
Not all dogs are comfortable around kids (and vice versa), so limiting the environment to adults only helps us keep stress levels low and prevent potential issues. While there are many wonderful ways in the community for kids to spend time with dogs, Barx Parx is designed to be a unique place where pups get to enjoy true off-leash freedom in a safe, social setting with their people.
We’re parents ourselves and absolutely love seeing kids interact with dogs. But Barx Parx is intentionally built as an adult social experience for dogs and their humans, often with entertainment, activities, and refreshments available.
Our number one priority is safety. While we’re happy to step in and manage over-excited pups, we’re not in the position to manage children in this active environment. Creating an insured, approved, and safe indoor dog park was already a big challenge — and adding children into the mix would have made it nearly impossible.
This adult is very much intentional, and we think you and your four-legged friends will love the experience we’ve created just for you.
Do you allow kids?
Barx Parx is an age restricted environment, depending on your location this is typically 18 or 21 years old. Please check your specific location for more information.
Do you accept reservations?
You bet we do! In fact we highly recommend making reservations for popular services such as boarding and daycare. Grooming and training are by appointment only so reservations are required for those types of services. If you are going to be unable to use services we ask that you please notify us at least 24 hours in advance. Deposits or prepayment may be required for holiday reservations and for customers with more than two reservation no-shows in a 30 day period.
Does it smell like dogs?
Nope! Cleanliness is extremely important to us. We filter the air you breathe with Merv-10 carbon pleated odor eliminator filters. These high quality filters and are proven to remove pet odors, mold spores and pet dander. We do not use any air purifiers and we recommend caution for using any any such devices. Many air purifiers can produce levels of ozone which are unhealthy for pets. Read more.
In addition to air filtration, we have an extensive cleaning and sanitizing process that occurs nightly. The EPA registered disinfectants are selected for their safety and effectiveness. You can find more information about our cleaning and sanitization here.
Can I bring in outside food & beverages?
We ask that you please not bring in outside food and beverage items.
Are glass beverage bottles allowed?
Your pup’s safety is always our number one priority! Only aluminum cans, plastic bottles and plastic cups are permitted.
What about barking?
We are a completely enclosed, indoor facility that is designed for a relaxed, safe level of play. Barking is absolutely allowed but excessive barking in our confined environment can become a stressor for other dogs. Even when playing, the “talking” can frenzy other dogs and stress out the entire space. As soon as one dog starts barking, many others follow, and the mood changes very quickly!
We understand that some dogs play in this manner, but for an indoor space, it can create anxiety for the other pups. You must be able to quiet your dogs down, redirect their attention and demonstrate full control.
Barx Parx facility employs acoustical panels throughout the facility. While this doesn’t eliminate noise from barking, it helps to limit echo and reverberation. That means you will still hear dogs barking but we do our best to limit echo in our indoor facility. What are your hours?
Park and lobby hours can be found on your location’s detail page. Find your location here.
Grooming and training are offered by appointment only. Daycare and boarding are offered 7 days a week.
What about aggression or bullying?
Dogs that are displaying any signs of aggression, bullying or aggravating other pups will politely be asked to take a time out or leave for the day. If disruptive behavior persists we may recommend taking a break from park visits or customized training programs to encourage positive play.
Does the staff watch out for my dog?
While our team always makes a best effort to ensure safety and monitor the level of play, your dog is ultimately your responsibility while you are visiting Barx Parx. You must keep an eye on your pup and be in control of them at all times. Remain in sight of your dog at all times to ensure and don’t turn your back on them. Keeping an eye on your pup will help keep them playing safe. If you have questions about your dog’s anxiety level or unique play style, feel free to ask a park ranger!
What are the indoor dog park rules?
You can view the indoor dog park rules here.
Can large dogs go in the gentle play “small dog” area?
We understand that some large dogs are older and/or intimidated by active play, so in many cases this is not an issue. However, if your large dog’s play becomes a safety risk for the smaller dogs, we will politely ask you to relocate your pup.
Can small dogs go in the active play “big dog” area?
We recognize that some small dogs do very well with large dogs, so in many cases this is not a problem. However, if your small dog is barking excessively or showing signs that they are uncomfortable, we will politely ask you to move out of the “big dog” area. If you have questions about your dog’s behavior or comfort level, ask a park ranger! We love your questions.
Do you have a “small dog” area?
Yes, we have a designated “small dog”/”gentle dog” area. It can be used by small dogs as well as by large dogs that are super gentle. Based on your dog’s energy and anxiety level, this may be different from one day to the next. Not sure? You can always ask a park ranger for a recommendation!
Can I take a tour of the facility?
Yes, absolutely! We love to give tours as well as answer any questions that you might have about Barx Parx. We are very proud of our facility and can’t wait to show you around! Please just make sure you arrive during our indoor dog park/lobby hours and leave your pup(s) at home for the tour 🙂
